The Workday Customer Experience

The objective was to update the video based on a Customer’s Life Cycle made back in 2017 which needed a refresh with the latest Workday Branding. The CX team developed new messaging based on customer surveys and interviews and needed a video that would give an overview of the themes (Align, Advance, Evolve) making up a customer’s journey and how Workday is committed to their success.

For this project, my role was lead designer and art direction working with our vendor to produce the animation.

Storyboards

Once the script is ready the next step is the storyboards. So basically a storyboard are draft drawings that help the client and team visualize how the video will go. These are sketches I did for the boards to help conceptualize and illustrate the script. For this, I drew on an iPad Pro and Adobe Fresco. We chose to tell the story with 2 characters. A main Workday Representative and a Customer and how Workday helped them throughout their journey.

Design

For the design phase we wanted to showcase diversity with different characters. Here are the Character Style Sheets. We wanted to utilize our time and strategize how to approach the animation phase. This was done in tandem while the script and storyboards were in review with the stakeholders. Taking the character and setting it up for rigging in different perspectives helped the animation process by giving guidelines to go by and making sure the heroes were consistent in every scene.

Production

In the ending scene, the customer was pulled up on to the mountain by the Workday Rep. At first the Workday Rep didn’t feel like he was giving the customer a helping hand but was teasing him with his hand out.  The solution was to not give the gesture of reaching out but to have the Workday Rep pull the new customer up.
